Bill Romel's Harmonica Workshop

It begins with some brass alloy and basic machinist's tools.

A layout of the various parts of the chromatic are prepared.

Here are chromatic instruments in various stages of
development and production. Fifty percent of the creation is in the hand finishing, testing and quality control.

The basic components of the three octave Virtuoso chromatic.

The body or comb as it often called is the only
non-metallic component of the instrument. Why use acrylic lucite? Because it is light compared to metal. It is strong, durable, environmentally stable, and is resistant to
fluctuations in temperature. It will not warp or
change its shape caused by variations in humidity. It is very easy to clean and above all, enhances sound volume as the vibrations created by the reed reflect off the hard surface of the acrylic.

The 3 1/2 Octave “Romello” Comb

An additional advantage is the ability to machine in ramps. Ramps provide better air flow.
