Romel Custom Chromatics These instruments are crafted completely from scratch except for the reedplates and reeds themselves. Our objective has always been to provide the improvements in materials and design that will enhance performance, longevity, aesthetics, simplicity, and ease of maintenance at a reasonable cost. Time is spent with each customer discussing why and how we do things so the client has a good understanding. We then try to provide the client with those features they are most interested in. Each harmonica is designed for different types of playing and sound and have their own distinct aesthetic qualities. The Virtuoso is a somewhat traditional chromatic and might be seen as better for classical music. The Romello might be considered for playing fast, upbeat jazz and standards. It is very mellow. The Wood Romello has an old world look to it, reminiscent of instruments
of the past which are admired by many as works of art. Does the wood
provide any significant tonal character? That is a debatable subject.
Many players say no and others say the tone is warmer. I feel that covers
that have a higher profile cut to the interior does mellow the tone
to some degree, removing some of the high metal tone that is characteristic
of most chromatics. We do upgrades on various stock chromatics, too. For example,
a simple upgrade on a wood comb 270. Seal the comb to prevent warping.
Installing Inserts and screws for easy maintenance. De-burring the slide
channel, slide and backplate for an air tight fit. Inserts for the Mouthpiece
fasteners. An inexpensive upgrade, roughly $45.00 plus S&H Priority Mail.
We now have a flat fee for service including single reed replacement, cleaning, valving and tuning...$45.00
